Position Overview

The Marketing and Communications Manager plays a strong role in advancing the mission, program, and goals of Open Window School. The primary objective of this role is to develop, produce, curate, and deliver highly engaging and innovative communications and digital content that tells the story of the school, creating momentum and buy-in for fundraising campaigns, building trust with current OWS families, and extending the school’s brand. They will proactively collaborate with the school’s senior leadership team, faculty and staff to project manager and execute initiatives, remain current on key issues, and to cultivate positive relationships with the school’s community members. As a core member of the Advancement team, the Marketing and Communications Manager proactively and proudly tells the story of the school to all constituents, in the moment and over time. The Marketing and Communications Manager is a member of the Advancement team and reports to the Director of Institutional Advancement and Strategy.

 

Major Areas of Responsibility/Specific Duties:

  • Oversee the planning, content and production of all internal and external communications (marketing materials, publications, invitations, and advertisements) from concept to delivery to constituents to ensure alignment of the school’s core messages and brand image.
    • Determine communication needs and schedule. Track deadlines and keep projects moving through approvals on time.
    • Identify and understand target audiences and ensure content is relevant and relatable for targeted audiences and aligns with current branding.
    • Write and edit messages.
    • Deliver content on time.
    • Analyze metrics to evaluate the effectiveness of content and recommend appropriate changes.
  • Optimize existing and develop new marketing strategies, supervise their implementation, secure ad space, and discover partnership opportunities that effectively reach the school’s targeted audiences.
    Utilize the school’s internal website to enhance school communications by creating and maintaining dynamic and timely resource boards, pushpages, forms, and other communication methods.
  • Manage the school’s website including overall design, content, user experience, and maintenance.
  • Write and edit key communications from the Head of School, Board of Directors and other key personnel.
  • Monitor SEO, measure results, share data, and provide recommendations with various teams.
  • Manage the school’s social media presence, including but not limited to Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, and YouTube, including the collection and curation of all content, ensuring content is engaging, dynamic, current, and aligned with the school’s mission and vision.
  • Oversee the publication of the school’s weekly divisional and general electronic newsletters including writing, editing, and disseminating.
  • Oversee the publication of the thrice-annual school magazine, including consultation with key members of the team, project management to ensure key deadlines are met, writing, editing, and disseminating
  • Support the process of creating, publishing, and overseeing the delegation to outside vendors of other school printed materials when assigned.
  • Establish, regularly update, and systematically enforce the school’s graphic standards.
  • Manage emergency communications through phone, text, web, and/or e-mail.
  • Photograph school events, assist with photoshoots, and edit photos as needed.
  • Has a pulse on the school schedule and visits classrooms and attends events regularly to capture photos and videos for both our marketing materials and general communication.
  • Demonstrates value of marketing efforts by tracking and reporting on meaningful metrics/analytics that inform decisions and improve efficiency to team and internal stakeholders.
  • As needed, provide regular reports to the Board of Directors and Advancement Committee on trends and data.
  • As needed, present to internal and external school groups, act as a representative for the school.
  • Stay current on trends in digital content and marketing.
    Take an active role in professional activities and attend relevant professional meetings and conferences.
  • Other duties as needed and assigned.

 

Qualities & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, web design, or related field and/or relevant experience.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in communications, marketing or a related field.
  • High level of creativity.
  • Deep understanding of how to use various marketing tools—such as organic and paid social media, email marketing, SEO, media, inbound marketing, partnership marketing, etc.—to move customers from awareness to conversion.
  • Blackbaud experience preferred.
  • Experienced digital storyteller, able to generate innovative ideas and deliver experiences across channels to connect with stakeholders to drive engagement.
  • High degree of comfort and familiarity with photoshop, video editing, and graphic design for annual reports, strategic plans, and constituency-based newsletters.
  • A proactive collaborator with the ability to take the lead on projects, accountable to self and others, organized, poised, discreet, resourceful, and trustworthy.
  • A lifelong learner who is eager to build upon their skillset and evolve to stay on top of the latest marketing and workforce development trends.
  • Ability to write, proofread, and edit scripts and other copy.
  • Ability to interface and maintain effective professional relationships with students, faculty, administrators, parents, alumni, and guests.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • High degree of cultural competence and demonstrated commitment to working with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to handle multiple, simultaneous, and complex tasks and projects efficiently and effectively without constant supervision and meet deadlines.

 

Position Details:

Manager: Director of Institutional Advancement and Strategy

Compensation: $70,000 – $85,000 per year

Position Classification: Exempt, Full Time, 12 months

Hours: General hours are 8am – 4pm; some morning/evening/weekend work will fall outside of these hours.
