Position Overview

Open Window School is welcoming applications for a Social Studies Teacher for the 2024-2025 school year. This is a rare opportunity for a talented, innovative, energetic, experienced teacher to join our team. A passion for global studies is a must for this position!


Social Studies at Open Window School focuses on an array of topics including a study of ancient cultures and geography, Washington State and American history and the Modern World. Other responsibilities include participation in weekly department and faculty meetings, leading an Advisory group focusing on social-emotional learning, teaching or supervising clubs, leading a student community leadership group and chaperoning overnight trips and attendance at some evening and weekend activities.


Major Areas of Responsibility/Specific Duties:

  •  Teaching four social studies classes across two grade levels.
  •  Curriculum design that is current and research based.
  •  Collaborating with colleagues across departments and grade levels.
  •  Serving on grade level and departmental teams.
  •  Dedication to learning and staying current with field studies and innovation in content area, DEIB work and gifted education.
  •  Maintaining curriculum maps and course documentation.
  •  Assessing students using multiple measures and providing meaningful student feedback.
  •  Communicating proactively with families about student progress.
  •  Serving as an advisor to Middle School Students.
  •  Participating in co-curricular school activities and overnight trips.
  •  Attend weekly faculty meetings and other required meetings and obligations.
  •  Other school-related responsibilities as assigned.



  •  Bachelor’s Degree or higher.
  •  Teaching certificate preferred.
  •  Experience in gifted education is a plus.
  •  Experience with project-based learning is a plus.
  •  Able to differentiate for varied levels and learning styles.
  •  Communicate proactively and professionally with colleagues, administrators, and parents/guardians.

Position Details:

Manager: Director of the Middle School

Compensation: $61,910 – $118,070 (based on education and experience)

Position Classification: Exempt, Full Time; this position is benefit eligible

Hours: 8am – 4pm, Tuesdays until 5pm. This role requires some commitments outside these hours including, but not limited to school events and Middle School Trips.
