The Opportunity

The role of the math coordinator position involves leading, collaborating and co-teaching with math teachers in Grades 4-8. The ideal candidate is seeking a leadership opportunity to expand their skill sets, and will help build a culture of math success and engagement in the upper division. They will have a collaborative approach to teaching, can teach an engaging and challenging program to highly capable students with individual learning styles and needs, and can utilize a wide range of instructional tools and resources. The school seeks candidates who approach the teaching of math through an equity and inclusion lens. Duties and Responsibilities

Coordinate and collaborate with classroom teachers and learning resource coordinators in adapting and implementing mathematics curriculum for Grades 4-8 students.
Utilize assessment data and standardized tests data to identify student needs and extension opportunities and work with classroom teachers to develop a support plan to meet the needs of students, both with intervention and extension.
Create and deliver differentiated and enrichment lessons in collaboration with classroom teachers related to math curriculum, including pre-algebra, algebra, and geometry curriculum, using a variety of resources, with a focus on developing conceptual understanding and problem-solving strategies.
Teaching math at Evergreen includes creating schemes of work and lesson plans, identifying and selecting inclusive instructional resources and methods to meet students’ needs, and preparing the classroom for activities.
Utilize whole class, small-group, and co-teaching models based on the needs of students, classes, and grade-level cohorts.
Establish and maintain communication with colleagues and parents/guardians regarding the Math program and Math placement.
Build and maintain mathematics resources that can be utilized to support Grades 4-8 students at a variety of skill levels.
Stay up to date with best practices and work with teachers to implement these practices in the classroom.
Develop and implement a culturally responsive curriculum for students. This may include building upon students’ prior knowledge and experience and having students work collaboratively, among other strategies.
Regularly assess students’ progress by observing and evaluating performance and development with an equity centered lens, assigning and grading classwork, homework, tests and assignments and providing appropriate feedback to students, their parents and colleagues.
Communicate regularly with the relevant people (advisors, learning support specialist, counselor, division head, and parents) about student progress.
Establish and enforce school rules for students with a positive style and strong classroom management skills.
Attend school, department, team and parent meetings.
Participate in certain extracurricular events, such as social and sporting activities, admission events, clubs, overnight camps and student group activities.
Be strictly vigilant about student health and safety.
Other duties as assigned.

Experience, Education and Desirable Skills

Experience in a lead math teacher role.
Hold a bachelor’s degree in math or related subject from an accredited college or university with teaching credentials. A master’s degree and teaching certificate (preferred).
Be comfortable teaching high school level mathematics through high school geometry and beyond.
Familiarity with research-based pedagogical practices in teaching mathematics.
Have a demonstrated record of developing one’s own cultural competency.
Have demonstrated success in working with people from diverse backgrounds and learning styles.
Have experience working with highly capable children (preferred).
Have experience crafting an inclusive curriculum.
Positively support the school’s mission while managing the demands of curriculum and lesson planning, teaching, collaboration and parent communications.
Establish a healthy rapport with students ages 10 to 14 while motivating and facilitating students’ growth and love of learning.
Be empowered by a collaborative approach to working with a team of colleagues, sharing with and learning from one another.
Draw from a variety of curriculum sources and be skilled in differentiating among students with clear methods to appropriately challenge highly capable students.
Communicate clearly, effectively and comfortably with the independent school community including students, parents and colleagues both inside and outside the classroom.
Be technologically inclined; utilize education applications in the classroom. Be proficient with current educational technology, especially blended learning platforms and strategies.
Respectfully maintain a high degree of confidentiality and integrity while exhibiting a professional manner and building constructive working relationships.
Report to work at the scheduled time and seldom be absent from work.
Complete work in a timely, accurate and thorough manner and be conscientious about assignments and deadlines.
Be willing to learn and adopt new digital technologies as appropriate to improve learning.

Position Details:

This is an exempt, 1.0 FTE full-time, benefits eligible position for the 2024-2025 school year beginning August 21, 2024. The salary range for an Evergreen teacher position is $64,461.00 to $131,062.00 per year, depending on experience.
