Villa Academy seeks a full-time Extended Day Teacher (serving Preschool to Fifth Grade students) to join its team. This six hours/day position works under the supervision of the Director of Student Experience and in partnership with the Extended Day team and other adults at Villa Academy. Hours are 12 – 6 PM daily. On occasion across the academic year, full day care will be offered, requiring additional hours.

The ideal candidate is familiar with and understands current developmentally appropriate practices in Early Childhood and School Age education, specifically with children aged three to twelve. They have a commitment to growing in cultural competence, professional development, and skill application.

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the direction of the Director of Student Experience, the successful applicant will plan and deliver developmentally appropriate activities, provide care and rest periods for the children, and perform a variety of other needed services within a licensed facility.
Work with preschool – Fifth Grade aged children in partnership with other Extended Day teachers.
Communicate professionally, accurately, and supportively with families and collaborate with the rest of the Extended Day team.
Supervise students in a variety of settings, including, but not limited to the Extended Day room, the school’s playground, and the Villa Academy campus at large.
Develop and maintain positive, professional relationships with students while facilitating healthy conversations.
Actively create and maintain a well-managed, positive environment that supports student engagement, care, and motivation.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Associate or bachelor’s degree (Teacher Certification considered a plus), including degree in process.
A minimum of two years of experience in working with school-aged children in a school/child care/camp/activity setting.
STARS training and certification preferred.
Desire to introduce children to nature and facilitate connections between them and their environment.
Ability to positively collaborate with colleagues and hold professional boundaries.
Plan and deliver age-appropriate activities daily, both independently and collaboratively.
Effective oral and written communication skills with children, colleagues, and families.
Strong organizational skills and the ability to be proactive and to solve problems that may arise.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs., stand for long periods of time, kneel and sit on the floor, and be active with children aged three to five.
Ability to perform all housekeeping tasks and any other duties as part of the role’s responsibilities.

SALARY RANGE AND BENEFITS:

Anticipated salary ranges between $19 – 25/hour, dependent upon education and experience.
